The Stanley Arms

The Stanley Arms

A very warm welcome to The Stanley Arms

This fabulous pub has been in existence since 1882 and is named the after the famous Sir Henry Morton Stanley, best known for his exploration of Central Africa and search for missionary and fellow explorer David Livingstone.
These intrepid explorers are referenced all over the pub, with the larger bar named after Stanley and the smaller bar named after Livingstone. Our pub garden is also adorned with a themed mural of Stanley and Livingstone in Africa and really adds to the pub environmental theme.
Today, The Stanley Arms thrives as an independent traditional Free House, owned by the brilliant Lizzie and Ash, who joined forces a few years ago to save the pub from certain closure and redevelopment in to flats!
We are a dog friendly pub and its not uncommon to see as many dogs as owners…It must be the water bowls and treats that we give out over the bar!!
Specialising in real ale, The Stanley Arms supports many local breweries and generally has 6 real ales available on tap. Notably, there is always a Best, APA and Porter/Old Ale available as part of the daily selection.
Alongside our Ales, there is a good selection of popular Lagers and Ciders – both on tap and bottled.
On the optics, we have another very wide selection, including our expansive gin bar and selection of single Malt Whiskies, amongst your other favourite tipples – including our latest cocktail and shots menu! All at great prices, as you would expect.
The Stanley Arms is a very inclusive environment and we welcome everybody to come in and sample the fun and friendly ethos of the pub. You will be made extremely welcome by the ever-friendly bar staff, who all very much enjoy working here!
And finally, we are very proud of our pub and encourage any external reviews that you wish to make about our beers and the pub in general, following your visit. So, please feel free to visit Trip Advisor and leave your comments.

Live Music

Most weekends there is live music from the very best local bands and singers. And for those weekends where there is no live music, we throw open the pub music to the Customers to choose their favourites. So, when you order a pint, expect to be asked what your favourite song is…and then expect to hear it shortly after…. (we have been asked everything from ACDC to Calamity Jane….)
In the summer, we extend our live music programme to the pub garden on Sunday afternoons. It is more of a relaxed environment, what better way to spend a lazy Sunday!
All upcoming live music is listed on our black board in the pub and on our Events Page . We also show upcoming live music on our facebook page, so please add/like us to find out “what’s on”.

Food

We are a “wet” pub and don’t do food, apart from our extensive pre-packaged bar snack range – not just crisps! Because of this, we do encourage Customers to bring in external orders from local take aways to enjoy with the great beer that we serve. We will even provide you with the disposable plates and cutlery!

Other Events

During the week, we have our Wednesday quiz with both winning and losing prizes on offer, and the guest round for the following week being chosen by the last placed team of the current week.
